Rationale
Analyzing research and choosing a topic amidst a wide range of options to focus on was a very arduous task at first. At the time, the instructor continually reminded us about how challenging it can be: "This course is a bear, but remember that the most rewarding experiences in life are usually those that are also the most challenging. You will finish the course, have a pretty amazing body of work to show for it, have learned a tremendous amount, shaped students' academic careers and experiences, and can give yourselves a well deserved, huge pat on the back when finished". Indeed, I am very proud of the work that went into this.
Reflection
The Action Research required that I collaborate, reflect and take action on issues that could benefit from change or a deeper and better understanding. I was immersed in research for 8 intense weeks on a cause that was dear to my heart. Through this research, I experimented with teaching Math for the first time. Let’s just say I believe I can do it. Because I am not an expert, I find that I am able to help my students that do not have a great affinity to Math understand it better. To further encourage me, my Principal signed me up for some Math workshops and she attended them with me as well. Above all, I realized more than ever before the need for collaboration. It is not a forgotten addendum that happens when teachers have extra time; it should happen all the time.
