My Educational Philosophy I walk into the classroom everyday with the consciousness that sitting in front of me are the future Prime Ministers of Canada, the Members of Parliament, Doctors, Engineers, Chefs, great plumbers, moms and dads, to mention a few. I know that how I deal them, facilitate learning and teach them, converse with them and the interaction I foster in my classroom with me and amongst one another maybe the determinant of whether that dream in their tiny hearts ever becomes a reality. So what do I do?
I ensure they develop, adopt and maintain a positive attitude and outlook on life. More importantly, I endeavour to have a positive attitude.
I have high expectations of my students and believe that they can all exceed them. I believe my students will not rise above what I expect of them.
I strive to be consistent in what I do, how I do it and when I do it with all students irrespective of anything. Even though fairness is not sameness, I want my students to know that I will deal with issues fairly and with consistency.
I believe because my students come in all flavours, I need to be flexible. Students are allowed more opportunities to shine when they know that they can make mistakes or that the teacher might bend, just a little bit.
I believe in the right to have fun, relax and have a great sense of humour. There are many memorable moments in the lives of each student that walks through my doors and many of them just need another chance to smile... I want to give them that opportunity. I also believe that its okay to laugh at myself.
I believe I am not working against parents but with them and together we can accomplish much more. I believe, in my classroom everyday, lies the power to change the world!
