Rationale
I chose to use this because I believe that as a teacher, we should strive to be current in our professional knowledge and recognize related policies and legislation to help inform us of our professional judgement in practice. If the purpose of education is to provide students with the opportunity to realize their potential and develop into highly skilled, knowledgeable, caring citizens who contribute to their society, then all partners in the education sector, including the Minister, the Ministry, the boards, and the teachers have a role to play in enhancing student achievement and well-being, closing gaps in student achievement and maintaining confidence in the province’s publicly funded education systems (Education Act. 2009, c. 25, s. 1.) Reflection Researching and analyzing on the various cases was like learning a new language. I was fascinated by how the courts ruled in the cases that had to do with teachers and with administration. Teachers' duty of care is much more than I was aware of prior to this course. I now have a working knowledge of the Education Act of Ontario and the various roles that educators and our partners play to make learning successful for our students. |
